Poetry Takes Readers on a Voyage to the Heart of Humanity

RENO, NEVADA (PRWeb) January 26, 2007 -- In his debut poetry volume, Voyages, Ross Smith seeks to reunify the common goals of humanity, which have too often been pushed aside in favor of petty differences.

RENO, NEVADA - What do historic voyages of explorers to the New World, Che Guevara, and the recent disaster in New Orleans have in common? Poet Ross Smith truly paints a universal picture with Voyages. He asks questions about war, revolution, and politics in the larger context of the mysteries of nature and love.

In Voyages, Smith utilizes a variety of writing styles, both rhyme and free verse, meter and stream-of-consciousness. His poems have a conversational, observant tone, addressing the reader personally as well as humanity as a whole. Although Smith condemns war and political corruption, he does not do so with the usual clichés. Instead, he sets up the more modern themes in his poetry with scenes from early pilgrimages to America before the land was settled.

His compassionate "A Disaster in New Orleans and Mississippi" offers a hopeful call to awareness and action on the part of individuals. "Che," a poem honoring Argentenian revolutionary Ernesto Guevara de la Serna, acknowledges the ideal behind communism but questions the ethics of its application. Smith's pictorals of the American West, Australia, South America, and Africa display an intelligent observation.

Smith begins and ends Voyages with reflections on nature, love, and personal experiences, suggesting that the power wielded by governments and nations will always be superseded by the noble and mysterious. The biographical elements throughout Voyages evoke the pain and questions that every human struggles with, and the hope that encourages people to prevail.

Poetry Audio Books You Can Listen To And Enjoy
Ahh? poetry. Everybody thinks that poetry has that "Je ne sais quoi" like no other literature type has. Maybe it's the mood that puts you in, maybe it's the rhyme, or maybe you just do not know what it is but you love it. Audio books are just as popular as poetry nowadays. Well, maybe I exaggerated a bit; audio books may not just as popular as poetry but are getting more and more popular these days. Think about it, with all you have to do each and every day, when was the last time you read a poetry book, or a book at all, and what did you have to sacrifice to have time to read that book?
